Treating Separation Anxiety in Dogs

Separation anxiety happens to dogs that are separated from their homes or masters either momentarily or permanently. If you see the symptoms of this problem with your pet, here are good tips to treat it:

1. Ignore your dog’s attention-seeking behaviors.
Dogs jumping around, barking, and scratching show the symptoms of separation anxiety. And at that point, they want their masters to notice them. To treat this problem in your pet, make sure that you ignore these bad behaviors every time they show.

2. Give your dog free access to the yard.
If your dog is big enough, allow it to get used to going out on the front porch without you. This would show your dog that it is okay to be apart from you from time to time.

3. Know the anxiety triggers.
There are certain reasons why your dog doesn’t want to be separated from you. Know what his reasons are and try to eliminate all of them. Only then would the anxiety go away.
