Stop Your Dog from Jumping Up On People
Dog TrainingIf you want your dog to stop jumping on kids, your visitors, or on you, just follow the simple tips below:
1. Ignore your dog if it tries to get attention by jumping.
Dogs tend to jump on people to get noticed. If they jump at you every time you arrive at the house, it may just be overjoyed by your arrival. However, don’t tolerate such an act. Instead of welcoming your pet as it jumps toward you, turn your back to it, showing your disapproval of his action. If he stops jumping, praise your dog. If he starts again after giving it attention, turn your back once more.
2. Stop him with his nose.
Every time your dog jumps, use the palm of your hands and guide your dog downward with his nose. Do this while saying ‘down’ repeatedly. Your dog will get the idea if you do this constantly, and every time he tends to jump at you or at other people.
3. Teach your dog how to sit.
Teach your dog the sit command would easily stop him from jumping. If he’s trained well, he would stop jumping immediately the moment you give the command.
